Testament of Menoth

By Paradox Sept 2, 2007

Paradox takes a look at One of his favourite Protectorate Warcasters, The Testament of Menoth.

"Obviously, Revive is the spell you are casting most often with the Testament.  However, its not just there to keep you on top of the attrition game.  Use Revive to trade off cheap troops, such as Choirs that have lost their Priests, in order to keep key units like Vengers or Zealots topped off, or to reposition newly dead troops in better positions.  In extreme cases, you could even kill one or two of your own troops, like a wounded Venger, to remove them from melee and/or gain a chage lane.  This is a good way to maintain your board control."

Amon Ad-Raza

By Assassin of Joy June 11, 2007

Assassin of Joy takes a look at perhaps the lease powerful Protectorate warcaster.

"Synergy is Amon’s signature spell and his primary strength.  With proper planning and use, Amon can drive Protectorate warjacks to hit with greater accuracy and strength than any other jacks in the game.  Unlike the other “warjack” casters, synergy isn’t quite the no-brainer that Full Throttle or Unearthly Rage is, Synergy builds like a wave, and it takes a well-timed and well-executed plan in order to drive that wave to its maximum crest."

The Butcher of Khardov

By Mengu June 11 , 2007

We move to the first "Expanded Option" for Khador by having at look at the fearsome Butcher of Khardov.

"The easiest way to win the game is to get the Butcher in melee with an enemy caster.  The easiest way to lose the game is to leave the Butcher out in the front line with little or no protection.  Resist the temptation to charge him up at a juicy target, and play conservatively.  As attrition strips away supporting forces, the chances the Butcher has of winning increase rapidly."

Estimating Distances

By Kaptain O Mar 18, 2007

Brief article on how to improve your range guessing abilities.

"When I started playing Warhammer as a kid most troops moved 4” or 8” so that after moving models 4” every turn for years I got a really good feel for how long 4” is, nowadays a lot of my range estimation is based upon that."

Master Tormentor Morghoul

By Mr.Sota Mar 18, 2007

Mr.Sota rounds out his look at the Skorne Warlocks from Primal with Master Tormentor Morghoul, the boxset caster and considered by most to be the weakest of the three.

"Morghoul abilities, spells, and feat give a simple, straight forward playstyle; engage the enemy, use the feat, and attempt to kill the opposing warlock. As Morghoul is a Warbeast warlock (due to Abuse) and the fact that Morghoul’s spell list and abilities have no inherent combinations with Troop/Solo’s, Troop selection will focus on filling in the gaps and supporting the warbeasts."

The Fury Mechanic

By JarredHTG Sept 2, 2007

One of our newest members gives some insight on the tricks he used againt Warmachine players to take his Circle force to the final game at Gencon 07 and come within 2VP of taking it all home for Hordes.

"There is also a common misconception about fury and CTRL is that Hordes beasts have a lower threat range because they must remain in CTRL in order to force for boosts/attacks etc. to be honest I find this is simply a problem for beginners. WM players can allocate focus and then activate their entire armies, sending jacks out of CTRL while still spending focus. However at the end of the turn doesn't just about every caster move forward far enough to ensure that their jacks are in CTRL for next round?"

From Albany to Indy II

By Kaptain O August 20 , 2007

Well I figured after last years Gencon Report I should put up another one, maybe I can make this an annual article - beware this year contains more bitching and whining than last year!!!

"We played fast but only got 2 turns in which pretty much fucked him, a 3rd turn would have made it much closer and I don't know who would have won.  As an aside, I had a conversation with this guy after the game, I told him that everything I had heard about him was that he was a giant douche, but that I had absolutely ZERO problems with the way he plays - he was knowledgeable, fast and a good sportsman - yeah his medals on his bases is kinda  smiley but the guy gets a thumbs up from me.."

Privateer Invitational

By Mengu April 26 , 2007

The Komitatus Artisan Mengu was recently given the chance to play at the PP Invitational and he wrote up this quick tournament report to let those of us less fortunate than he know what happened.

"On Sunday, there was a huge live theater of war. I'm not in liberty to say much about it, but it was a hoot. There was some crazy stuff like 18 Mortars on one field, or like Epic Butcher with 16 or so Warjacks. On our table we were outnumbered, outgunned, and outclassed by around 6 full units of Vengers, 4 Warcasters against our two (Irusk and Gorten). There was no way to achieve our primary objective of getting a central point. We had to focus on our second objective of not getting totally annihilated and giving up our flag."

Dear PPS: Make All Events Hardcore

By Ranz April 5, 2007

Ranz Rant's and Raves (oooh alliteration) about the Hardcore tournament format compared to the "All-Pewter-Open".

"What’s so fucking great about Hardcore?  If you have to ask, you may need to seek counseling.  First off, the name itself is great.  It implies that it’s the only format in which “hardcore” players play.  The obvious conclusion one may draw from this is that those who play in other formats, are less than “hardcore” and thus pussies."

Zoning and Herding

By Not Dice Mar 25, 2007

Our friend Not Dice of LA Swamp Gobbers explains 2 important concepts in board control.

"In order to achieve victory, one must not only choose the army options best suited to the task, but they must also apply the army’s capabilities on the two-dimensional playing field in order to achieve the game’s objective. Doing so requires understanding of two dynamic, symbiotic tactical concepts: Zoning and Herding. "

Wraith Witch Deneghra

By D.Vader Mar 18, 2007

D.Vader begins our "Expanded Options" guide to Warcasters the Komitatus looks at as a step below Top-Tier with a look at Wraith Witch Deneghra and how to play her effectively.

"Tenebrous Exile, Marked for Death, and Harrowing form the Wraith Witch's control arsenal.  Tenebrous Exile can be used to deny a unit their attacks or to open charge lanes to models that your opponent thought were protected.  When denying attacks, look to neutralize powerful counter charge threats like Man-o-War Demolition Corps or units that cannot be dealt with in conventional ways like Holy Zealots with Greater Destiny."

By Slappy Mar 13 , 2007

Read Slappy's second thrilling Fanfic here!!!

"“Reinholdt shut the fuck up and let me do the thinking.  I’m not Lord Commander for nothing.  Get that ammo ready.” said Stryker in the manliest voice you’d ever hear.  The Goblin opened his dirty jacket and fumbled with a box of Magnum ammo.."
